Kings Canyon – what an amazing surprise! It’s been called “Yosemite without the tourists” and we like that idea a whole heck of a lot. The main attraction for the day was Zumwalt Meadows, which sit at the bottom of a glacially-carved canyon, much like Yosemite Valley. We went on a guided nature walk with a park ranger who talked about the natural inhabitants of this meadow (plant and people). It was very informative. The whole drive into the canyon, we followed to King’s River, which was classified as a Class 6 river – meaning it’s so swift and high (they had lots of snow this winter – it’s fed by snow-melt) that not even a pro can raft it.
Every twist an turn in the road provided a fantastic vista that had us wondering, yet awfully glad, that why more people don’t visit this park.
